Yamaha MT series consist of naked bikes from the manufacturer where MT stands for “Master of Torque”. Under this series, Yamaha produces a range of bikes right from 125cc to 1000cc. Known for its light weight and more torque, it is one of the eye catching bike in the market. Recently, Yamaha launched MT-15 BS6 compliant and introduced a new Red color option along with existing Blue and Black. The BS6 version gets a price hiked of INR 500 for the Red color scheme.
Yamaha MT-15 Design & Features
Yamaha MT-15 is one of the most intimidating and aggressive naked bike in the market. The front design of this naked bike looks futuristic with its sleek Bi-functional LED headlamps. The wide handle bar and weighing over just 138 kg, it is very agile and ultra light motorcycle. The minimalist design with naked style, radiator side fins and spherical muscular fuel tank makes it look bold and striking. At the rear, it gets short tail with sleek LED tail lights giving it distinct touch.
The MT-15 BS6 is equipped with multi-functional negative LCD instrument cluster. The Hi and low beam have been integrated into a single Bi-functional LED headlamp which is first in the segment. The bike has a seat height of 810 mm and comes with Uni-Level Seat with grab bar. The seating position is upright and gives you complete control of the bike. The optional side engine cut-off switch helps you extra fuel, which is quite good given than prices of fuel has been increasing quite frequently.
Yamaha MT-15 Engine Specifications
MT-15 BS6 is powered by Single Cylinder, 4-stroke, 155 cc engine producing a power of 18.5 PS @ 10000 rpm and a torque of 13.9 Nm @ 8500 rpm. The engine is liquid cooled and comes with Fuel Injection system. Heavy duty transmission is handled by 6-Speed Manual gearbox. The Assist and Slipper Clutch (ASC) allows smooth shifting of gears and prevents excessive engine braking. The MT-15 gets a state-of-the-art Variable Valve Actuation (VVA).
So, What is Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) and How does it work?
Variable Valve Actuation (VVA) is a high performance system that provides torque for ease of use even at low rpm. There are two intake valve cams: one for low rpm and the other for high rpm. The valve switches whenever rpm crosses 7,400 mark. This ensures linear delivery of power and torque throughout the range.
MT-15 gets a fuel tank of 10 litres and has a mileage of 40 kmpl which gives you a range of 400 kms on a single full tank.
Yamaha MT-15 Chassis, Suspension & Brakes
MT-15 gets a Deltabox frame which is newly designed specifically for this bike. It is a triangular frame which gives it excellent rigidity and balance. In terms of suspension, bike comes with Telescopic fork at the front and Linked-Type Monocross at the rear. Braking is handled by 282 mm Disc at the front and 220 mm Disc at the rear. The bike is also equipped with Single Channel ABS giving you a better stability and control at high speeds preventing any wheel lockups and skidding.
The 17 inch Tubeless Alloy wheels increase the overall look of this naked street bike. 140 mm Rear Radial Tyre is wide enough giving great grip and confidence to the rider.
