Upcoming Sedans in India 2022

As we enter into 2022, a whole new set sedans are expected to get launch in coming months. Though buyers have been migrating to big cars like SUVs and MPVs, there are still lot of buyers who prefer 3 boxy shape of sedans. In this article, we bring you the list of sedans which will be launched in this year.

1. Honda City Hybrid

Many manufacturers are launching CNG compatible cars however in real world, hybrid cars offer more practical usage by combining combustion engine and electric motor. Honda will be launching its City Hybrid RS in India in this year. The model was already launched in Thailand is expected to arrive in India as well. The claim mileage of City Hybrid is 27.8 kmpl. It will get a electric motor with 109 hp and old 1.5 litre petrol engine. From the outside it will look similar to other City however it will be very different from the inside. It is expected to be priced between 15-18 lakh ex showroom.

The new Hyundai Elantra is expected to launch in India. The revised styling is going to attract lot of eyeballs. The new Elantra gets a coupe styling with cuts and creases. Hyundai calls the new design as Parametric dynamic styling. With increase in dimension and wheelbase, the cabin will be more spacious than before. Elantra will be powered by same 2 litre Petrol engine producing a power of 147 hp & 179 Nm of torque. 

In terms of features, the Elantra will get digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen supporting both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The higher variants are expected to get connected car tech, sunroof & ventilated seats. It is expected to be priced between INR 20-25 lakh ex showroom. It is expected to compete with Skoda Octavia.

3. New Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Mercedes has confirmed the updated C class will arrive in India by May, 2022. The company has big hopes on this car and is expecting to increase its sales figure in 2 digits. The new C class is more spacious thanks to its increased wheelbase and will be rich in features. The new C class will be powered by C200 2 litre turbo petrol engine producing 204 hp and C200d 2 litre diesel engine producing a power of 194 hp.

The new Mercedes Benz C Class is expected to be priced between INR 50 – 55 lakh ex showroom.

4. Mercedes-Maybach S-Class

The new Mercedes Maybach S Class is expected to launch in March. The new S class will be assembled in the Chakan’s plant in Pune. With increase in wheelbase, the new S Class will set new benchmark in creature comfort and state of the art features. The S class will be powered by V8 twin turbo petrol engine prodcuing a massive 500 hp along with 48V mild hybrid technology. The sedan is expected to have standard 4 wheel drive system.

The new S class will be priced at INR 2.5 crore ex showroom.

5. Skoda Slavia

Revealed in 2020, Skoda Slavia is expected to launch in March 2022. It will replace Skoda Rapid and will be sold in three bold trims namely Active, Ambition and Style. The Slavia will be powered by 1-litre turbo petrol engine producing 115 hp and 250 Nm of torque. It is also expected to get a 1.5 litre Petrol engine in higher trim. In terms of transmission, it will be offered in both Manual as well as Automatic transmission. 

Skoda Slavia will get state of the art features such as ventilated seats, infotainment screen, automatic climate control and many more. In terms of safety, it is expected to get 6 airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors. Skoda Slavia will be priced from INR 10 – 18 lakh ex showroom.

6. Tata Tigor CNG

Tata Tigor CNG has been launched in India. The Tigor is  powered by same 1.2 litre, 3 cylinder revotron petrol engine. In petrol mode, the engine produces a power of 86 hp and 113 Nm of torque however in the CNG mode, it produces 73 hp of power and 95 Nm of torque. The power and torque declines by 13 hp and 18 Nm in CNG mode.

Tigor CNG is available in two trims – XZ and XZ+ and it price starts from INR 8.29 lakh ex showroom.

7. Toyota Belta

Toyota Belta which is a makeover of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is expected to be launch in April. The Belta is already introduced in eastern market and will debut in India soon. The sedan will be powered by 1.5 litre mild hybrid endine producing a power of 105 PS  and 138 Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to 5 speed manual or a 4 speed torque converter.

The features will remain similar to its twin sister Ciaz. The price will start from INR 10 lakh ex showroom.

8. Toyota Camry Hybrid facelift

The Toyota Camry eighth generation was launched in India in 2019. Now, company has revealed its hybrid facelift variant in India. It gets a redesigned front bumper with big black grille with less chrome than its predecessor. The Camry is available in single loaded trim. Some of the notable features include three zone climate control, JBL speakers, powered sunshades, powered and ventilated front seats, head up display and many more. In terms of safety, it is equipped with nine airbags.

Toyota Camry is powered by 178 hp, 2.5 litre petrol engine which is paired with 120 hp permanent magnet synchronous motor with combined output of 218 hp. Being a hybrid car, it has a mileage of 23.27 kmpl. Toyota Camry is priced at INR 41.70 lakh ex showroom.

9. Volkswagen Virtus

The Volkswagen Virtus will be launched in April 2022. It will be a replacement of Vento and is based on MQB platform. Similar to Slavia, it will be also powered with 1 litre petrol and 1.5 litre petrol engine. There is no confirmation on diesel. The price is expected to be somewhere between 9 – 12 lakh ex showroom.
