Upcoming SUV in India 2022 - Part 1

India is a big SUV market. The sales figure of 2020 broke all the records of SUV sales. The demand for SUV is rising more than ever and that’s the reason year 2022 is lined up with record number of SUV launches. In this article, we bring you the list of SUVs which will be launched this year in India.

1. Audi Q3

Audi Q3 was pending for long update in India and with second generation already being launched in global market two years back. Audi Q3 was recently spotted testing in Maharashtra and is expected to launch in 2022. The Q3 is expected to revive the sales number of Audi. The Q3 will be powered by 2 litre, 4 cylinder turbo petrol engine producing 188 hp and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to 7 speed dual clutch auto transmission. The price of new Audi Q3 is expected between INR 33-43 lakh ex showroom.

Audi Q7 is one of the most sold luxury SUV in the Indian market. The Q7 received new updates in 2020 and is expected to launch in Feb, 2022. Similar to other Q series, it gets a new redesigned grille with LED DRLs. To compete with other SUVs in the segment, the Q7 now comes with connected car tech and advanced safety features.

The Q7 is expected to get only 3.0 litre, 6 cylinder petrol engine producing a whooping 335 hp. The luxury SUV is expected to be priced between 1-1.2 crore ex showroom.

3. BMW X3 & X4

Both BMW X3 and X4 facelift version have been launched in India. These luxury SUVs can be easily differentiated with their big kidney slotted front girlles. BMW X4 price starts at 62.40 lakh ex showroom and BMW X3 starts from 59.9 lakh ex showroom.

BMW X3 is powered by 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine mated with 8 speed automatic transmission. Both X3 and X4 get AWD as standard.

Force Gurkha 5 door has been spied once again without any camouflage.  Expected to launch in few months, Force Motors is leaving no stone unturned by testing the 5 door variant rigorously. To accomodate the middle two doors, the wheelbase has been extended and it gets split windows in the last row. The 5 door maintains its boxy design and most of the looks remains same.

The Gurkha 5 door will get same 2.6 litre, 4 cylinder diesel engine producing a power of 89.94 bhp at 3200 rpm and 250 Nm of torque at 1400-2400 rpm. As far as transmission is concerned, it will get same 5 speed manual transmission.

Hyundai Creta is long pending for an upgrade. The new Creta facelift is expected to launch in April. The face-lifted Creta could be powered by same 1.4 litre petrol and 1.5 litre diesel engine. There will be both 6 speed manual and 6 speed automatic transmission. In terms of design, it 2022 Hyundai Create facelift gets an updated fascia with new grille design and integrated LED DRLs on both ends.

The facelift Creta will be loaded with lot of features including connected car tech, sun roof, big infotainment screen & ADAS. The price of Creta facelift will be between INR 11 lakh – 18 lakh ex showroom.

6. Hyundai Tucson

The much anticipated Hyundai Tucson is expected to launch in India in 2022. The company revealed the fourth generation Tucson in the international market. The Tucson will compete with Jeep Compass, Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster. The price is expected to be priced from 25 lakh ex showroom.

Hyundai Venue facelift is expected to launch somewhere in June or July. The company is testing the updated Venue and has been spotted in camouflage multiple times across India. The spy shots have revealed that new Venue facelift will get significant changes as compared to older variant. Similar to its elder brother Creta, Venue will also get connected car tech. The SUV likely to retain the existing engine set-up comprising a 83bhp/113Nm, 1.2L NA petrol, a 118bhp/175Nm, 1.0L turbocharged petrol and a 99bhp/240Nm, 1.5L turbo-diesel. Transmission choices include both manual as well as automatic.

The price is expected to be between INR 6.99 lakh – 11.87 lakh ex showroom.

8. Jeep Compass Trailhawk

The offroad spec Jeep Compass trailhawk is expected to arrive in Feb 2022. The trailhawk variant is expected to get redesigned grille, bumper and new LED DRLs similar to Compass facelift. The standard SUV received facelift in January 2020. The SUV will be powered by 2 litre 170 hp diesel engine. It will be offered in both manual as well automatic transmission. The 4WD will be more advanced than other Compass.

9. Jeep Grand Cherokee

The American brand Jeep is working to bring its iconic Cherokee to the Indian market. The company is testing it rigorously and will be locally assembled in India, so it could be priced a bit lower. In USA, Grand Cherokee is offered in both 6 seater and 5 seater, it would be interesting to see which variant will be offered in India. The iconic SUV is powered by 3.6-litre V6 (297PS/352Nm), 5.7-litre V8 (362PS/529Nm), and the new 2-litre turbo hybrid (381PS/637Nm). Indian Cherokee can be expected with 2 litre turbo hybrid. 4×4 could be standard across all variants.

10. Jeep Meridian

Jeep Meridian is the extended version of Compass with 7 seater configuration. Meridian is already launched in latin America (Commander) and is expected to arrive in India in mid 2022. The three row SUV will get same 2 litre diesel engine producing a power somewhere between 170-200 hp.  It is also expected to get 48V mild hybrid setup. 

There could be a premium charged over existing Jeep Compass. The Meridian is expected to compete with MG Gloster, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan and Toyota Fortuner.
