Tata Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG launched; prices start from INR 6.09 lakh
With rising fuel prices, demand for fuel efficient cars has risen dramatically. To overcome this, many manufacturers are now working on CNG kit fitted cars. Tata has also now launched Tiago and Tigor with factory fitted CNG kits. Both the cars are quite popular among Indian audience and is definitely going to boost the sales.
Tata Motors has officially launched much Tiago and Tigor with i-CNG factory fitted kits. Both cars provide ARAI claimed mileage of 26.49 km/kg. The price starts from 6.09 lakh and goes up to 8.29 lakh ex showroom. Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai are also working on factory-fitted CNG models and will be launched in upcoming months. The Maruti Suzuki has already launched Celeio with CNG which has claimed mileage of 35.60 km/kg.
What to expect?
Both Tiago and Tigor are powered by same 1.2 litre, 3 cylinder revotron petrol engine. In petrol mode, the engine produces a power of 86 hp and 113 Nm of torque however in the CNG mode, it produces 73 hp of power and 95 Nm of torque. The power and torque declines by 13 hp and 18 Nm in CNG mode.
The cost of CNG models has been increased by INR 90,000 compared to Petrol variants. Tiago CNG is available in four trims – XE, XM, XT, XZ+ – while the Tigor CNG is available in two trims – XZ and XZ+. Tiago CNG is available from base to top model whereas Tigor CNG is available in top-spec trims only. Now with factory-fitted CNG kits, bootspace is compromised a bit.
Rivals
Though Tata is quite early in launching CNG kit fitted cars however it won’t be the last. Tata will face stiff competition from market leader Maruti Suzuki which already has CNG supporting cars from base offering Alto to all the way upto Ertiga MPV. Similar applies for Hyundai as well.
In coming months, Hyundai is expected to launch Aura CNG while Maruti will be launching WagonR CNG, Dezire CNG and Swift CNG.
