Renault KWID is the first entry level car offered by the manufacturer in India. It is also one of the most cheapest car with price starting at just 2.92 lakh ex showroom. Renault sells 5k units of KWID on an average every month which is quite impressive. The company has now updated with KWID with BS6 norms which makes it more safe and reliable than before.
Exterior
From the outside, KWID BS6 seems more inspired by an SUV. There are plenty of design elements borrowed from SUV such as roof rails, big headlamps along with silver streak LED DRLs and skid plates at the bottom. The newly designed front black grille along with body colored bumper make it look more muscular and aggressive. It comes with gray spoke wheels and side padding across door for extra protection. At the rear it gets tail lights along with LED light guides which kind of look cool and striking. Based on the variant, most of the features differ like the Climber variant comes with two tone Sporty Orange inserts and roof rails.
Interior
In terms of ergonomics, KWID gets comfortable seats and piano finished dashboard. It gets standard steering while higher variants get Electric power steering and same goes with most of the interior features. The base variant comes with standard features like Digital instrument cluster, Reverse Parking Sensors, Heater, front seats with slide and recline, Mobile, Wallet and 1 litre bottle storage spaces and Lane change indicator. However, most importantly, base variant misses out on Air conditioner which is kind of disappointing.
The higher variant gets power windows, Reverse Parking Camera, Fast USB charging and 20.32 cm touchscreen infotainment system which supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Climber variant comes with Sporty Orange & White fabric upholstery on seats, Sporty steering wheel and many more. Renault has smartly distributed all its features across all variants and thus customers get a wide variety of options to choose suitable KWID based on their need.
Safety
In terms of safety, KWID BS6 base variant comes with Driver Side Airbag, Reverse Parking Sensors and ABS with EBD as standard. It also gets Driver and Passenger Seat Belt Reminder System, Rear Door Child lock, Engine Immobiliser and Overspeed alert. Given the price of base variant, KWID offers good amount of safety features. In terms of braking, it gets a Disc in front and drum at the rear and is equipped with radial tubeless tyres.
The higher variant, however, comes with more safety features like Reverse Parking Camera, Passenger side front Airbag, Remote Key and Centre Locking. The new set of safety features makes KWID more safe and reliable than before.
Specifications
KWID BS6 is offered in two engine options.
- 0.8L SCe 800 cc, 3 cylinder engine which produces a power of 54 PS @ 5678 rpm and torque of 72 Nm @ 4386 rpm mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.
- 1.0 SCe MT & AMT 999 cc, 3 cylinder engine producing 68 PS @ 5500 rpm and torque of 91 Nm @ 4250 rpm. It comes with both Manual as well as Automatic transmission.

KWID BS6 price starts at 2.92 lakh and goes up to 5.01 lakh ex showroom. KWID is one of the most cheapest car in the Indian market. To put into perspective, KTM 390 Adventure is priced at 2.99 lakh and with 2.92 lakh you have a four wheeler. Also KWID is Rs. 2000 cheaper than its closest rival Maruti Suzuki Alto.
