Skoda Auto has unveiled its much awaited BS6 complaint Rapid TSI. Like many other manufacturers, Skoda has also discontinued Diesel variant and now it only comes with 1.0L TSI Petrol engine. The new engine is more refined and compliant with BS6 norms.
Skoda Rapid Exterior
The overall look of this compact sedan is kept simple and minimalistic yet appealing at the same time. The sedan now comes a Projector Headlamps* and LED DRLs which gives it a distinct look. It gets a redesigned signature front grille with chrome surround and Skoda badge at the top. The body colored bumper along with centre fitted chrome strip makes it look more premium.
This compact sedan now comes with body colored electrically adjustable ORVMs and 17* inch alloy wheels. At the rear it gets a simple but clean C-shaped tail lights along with chrome strip on the tailgate. In the Rapid TSI Monte Carlo variant it gets glossy black ORVMs, tailgate Spoiler and Dual tone 17 inch Alloy wheels which makes it look more sporty and muscular.
Skoda Rapid Interior
The new Skoda Rapid TSI gets a Dual tone interior. It gets fabric/leather upholstery based on the variant and comes with centre armrest for front as well as rear. The cabin is quite big and comfortable compared to its competitors. The door handles get chrome treatment, bottle holders in the front doors and powered windows which add more convenience to this sedan. The Rapid comes with Automatic Climate Control with rear AC vents and 12V socket both in front as well as rear. The steering gets height/length adjustable along with height adjustable driver seat.
In terms of comfort, the Rapid scores high, however it lacks features compared to its competitors. The base variant gets only Audio player and 20.32 cm Android infotainment system is available only in Style and Monte Carlo variant. Same goes with features like Cruise Control, Multi functional steering wheel and Automatic front wiper. Clearly, If a customer wants more features, they need to pay more.
Skoda Rapid Safety Features
Skoda cars are known for a good safety standards and Rapid follows the tradition. This compact sedan now comes with Dual front Airbag, ABS and Rear Parking Sensors as standard. It gets three-point seat belts at front and Two three-point and centre lap belt at rear. The door and window come with Childproof locking.
In terms of security, Rapid also gets Engine Immobiliser, Central locking, Remote Control key for locking/unlocking doors and windows. The Anti theft alarm further increases the security of this sedan.
Skoda Rapid Engine Specifications
This new compact sedan now comes with 1.0L TSI Petrol Engine which produces 110 PS @ 5000 – 5250 rpm and torque of 175 Nm @ 1750 – 4000 rpm. Like many other manufacturers, Skoda has discontinued Diesel variant and now only offers in Petrol. It comes with a 6-speed Manual transmission. At present there is no Automatic on offer, but we might see in coming months. The fuel capacity happens to be 55 litres and has a mileage of 18.97 kmpl.

Skoda offers Rapid in 5 variants. The price for the base variant starts at 7.49 lakh and goes upto 11.79 lakh ex showroom. The base variant offers quite less features, however in terms of safety and engine it is definitely a fun to drive.
