American cars are known for their big sizes specially SUVs. There are plenty of imported American SUVs in India. On the other day we saw Mukesh Ambani’s imported Cadillac Escalade which was spotted in Mumbai. No one would have ever thought of importing American trucks in India, specially heavy duty trucks. A business man based out of Gujarat recently imported Kenwood’s truck from America. It is one of a kind and the business man spent close to INR 2.5 crore which includes 30 lakhs of import duty.
Given the American laws, the truck size is often restricted based on the payload length and not the cabin. This allows manufacturers to produce trucks which have huge cabin. USA is huge and given its excellent road network, the truckers often have to travel long distances. Hence these big trucks are loaded with lot of features and cabin room to give comfort to driver.
Kenworth Truck Engine Specifications
From the picture, it is not clear exactly which model it is however the T880 which is currently for sale in USA comes with 12.9 litre MX 13 engine which produces 405-510 hp and 1966 – 2500 Nm of torque. These trucks are really huge and are meant for heavy duty operations. The engine is mated to TX-18 series transmission which in itself is state of the art and is rear wheel driven.
So you must be wondering, what is the fuel efficiency. Well, these trucks on an average have mileage of 12 km per 3 litres or in simple words, it’s 7 miles per gallon.
Reportedly, the truck is right hand drive. That means it needs a specialised driver to drive it. The business man also hired an American driver at a whooping salary of INR 1 lakh per month.
Kenworth Truck Lifespan
Given its humongous engine and size, these trucks are expected to last for at least two decades. There are trucks in USA which have odometer of more than 2 million miles.
