Exterior

Nexon EV is similar in looks to its Petrol variants however there are some noticeable changes which distinguish from its siblings. It comes with lot of Blue lines signifying an Electric car. The facelift design of the bonnet looks more intimidating. At the front you get Projector headlamps with Tri-arrow DRLs and Electric blue accents on the hood to indicate it as Electric version. Diamond cut alloy wheels and roof rails makes it look more sportier. At the rear you get LED tail lights. However the base variant misses out Body colored door handles and Shark fin antenna.

Interior

In the passenger compartment there are plenty of blue lines highlighting that it is a Electric car. In the dashboard you get 7 inch infotainment system which supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Top variant also comes with powered sunroof and Leatherette seats. Nexon EV comes with Automatic climate control with rear AC vents. The instrument cluster is semi digital and can be operated with steering mounted controls. At the rear the floor is flat and can accomodate three passengers easily. Nexon also gets a connected car app ZConnect and supports 35 features such as Diagnostic report, navigation etc which can be controlled directly through mobile.

Safety

Tata Nexon EV truly shines in the safety department. Nexon has one of the strongest steel structure in its segment. It comes with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and CSC as standard. Child safety rear door locks, ISOFIX anchorage points for child seat provides more convenience. It scored 5 star rating at Global NCAP crash test.

Drivetrain

Nexon comes with a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor which product 129 PS and 245 Nm of torque with automatic transmission. This power is supported by 30.2 kWh Lithium ion battery which is placed under the passenger compartment. Both Motor and Battery are IP 67 certified which means it is waterproof upto 1 meter. Charging the battery (10% to 90%) takes 8.5 hours with regular 15 A regular plug point whereas it takes 60 minutes (SOC 0% to 80%) using a Fast Charger.

Performance

Nexon EV comes with a range of 312 KM on full charge as per Modified Indian Driving Cycle (MIDC) with energy efficiency (Wh/Km) of 100. The Electric motor is very punchy and good to drive. It comes with driving modes namely drive and sport mode. The sport mode is likely to drain the battery fast and hence will affect overall range of the car. The 245 Nm of torque is available from the start and accelerates pretty fast. It’s very fun to drive and battery placement below the passenger compartment keeps it grounded to the road and provides stability.

Tata Nexon EV comes with 3 variants.

  1. XM priced at 13,99,000 lakhs ex showroom.
  2. XZ+ priced at 14,99,000 lakhs ex showroom.
  3. XZ+ Lux priced at 15,99,000 lakhs ex showroom.

Both Battery and Motor comes with a 8 years/1.6L KM of warranty.

Review

Nexon EV is a proper electric car offering a decent range on a single charge. It is a connected car and comes with plenty of modern features. It is also safest and one of toughest compact SUV in the market. Nexon EV is best for people who have designated parking spots with Charging point and have limited travel of within 250 KM. However there are few things to note down before considering any Electric Vehicle.

  1. The base variant doesn’t has infotainment system and sunroof despite giving more than 14 lakhs which we think should have been present in all the variants.
  2. Though many Car manufacturers are launching Electric car, they are missing very important part here and that is CONVENIENCE. Though Tata has charging stations more than any other manufacturer in the country you might feel a bit disappointed after seeing the count of charging stations across country: https://nexonev.tatamotors.com/charging-locator/.

Clearly India is still 5 – 10 years behind in terms of infrastructure to consider any Electric car as a daily driving vehicle for work as well as for long drives of > 1000 kms as they simply lack convenience.
