Jawa is one of the iconic brand which was recently revived by Mahindra in the Indian market. The classic looking Italian motorcycles have fanbase all across the world. Along with a series of launches including Jawa Perak and Jawa Classic, it is Jawa 42 which stands out with its distinct look and modern characteristics. Before Jawa, there was a monopoly of Royal Enfield but now the situation has changed. The market has become quite competitive with the likes of Benelli and Jawa. Let’s have a look at Jawa 42 in detail.
Jawa 42 Design & Features
Technically, Jawa 42 is quite similar to Jawa Classic however 42 has been designed keeping the youth in mind. It gets all the modern touches that one would expect from this bike. The wide handlebars give you high maneuverability and sporty stance while riding. There are plenty of color schemes to choose from and each color has a distinct charm. The golden strips on tank and side fenders look attractive specially on Blue paint scheme. The paint job is quite similar to other Jawa models and gives it classic touch.
Unlike Jawa Classic, Jawa 42 has less chrome and looks quite rugged & sturdy. At the front it gets Halogen headlamps along with right side positioned typical Analog instrument cluster. At the rear, it comes with grab rail and bulb type tail light along with Jawa signature dual chrome exhaust. The seat height of just 765 mm is comfortable for short as well as tall riders.
Jawa 42 Engine Specifications
Jawa 42 is powered by Single Cylinder, 4-stroke 293cc engine producing a power of 26.41 PS and peak torque of 27.05 Nm. Heavy duty transmission is handled by 6-speed manual gearbox. The engine is liquid cooled and gets fuel injection, which gives it edge over Royal Enfield Classic.
The low end torque and powerful engine is fun to drive and also has less vibrations at higher speeds. The radiator does a good job and prevents engine from stalling due to excessive heat. The fuel capacity is around 14 litres and has a mileage of 37.5 kmpl*, which gives you a range of over 400 kms. Jawa 42 has a top speed of around 143 kph.
Jawa 42 Suspension & Brakes
In terms of suspension, Jawa 42 comes with traditional Telescopic forks at the front and Twin shock hydraulic at the rear. The rear suspension is on the stiffer side, whereas the front suspension is quite responsive. To keep the rider in control, Jawa 42 is equipped with Single Channel as well as a Dual Channel ABS option. For a Single Channel ABS it gets 280mm Disc at the front and 153 mm Drum at the rear. In case of Dual Channel ABS, you get Disc brakes both at the front as well as rear.
Weighing over 172 kg, Jawa 42 has a good power to weight ratio which makes it good for highway touring. The bike is more balanced and has less vibrations at higher speeds.
