Tiago was launched in September, 2018 and manage to enter top 10 selling passenger vehicles in India. The new design and safety standards borrowed from Nexon were seen in Tiago as well. The new BS6 emission norms are in place owing to which, Tata has discontinued Diesel variant. Tiago BS6 is now offered only in Petrol. Tata Tiago Exterior
Unlike other Tata cars, Tiago is a compact car with plenty of new design elements. The bold color scheme with black roof looks striking and commands attention. At the front, it gets a body sculpted hood along with nicely integrated piano finished sleek grille and sporty angular headlamps. It comes with body colored bumpers and black finished ducts for fog lamps. The dual tone alloy wheels along and black finished ORVMs looks spectacular. The ConnectNext App keeps you connected with the hatchback using your smartphone and alerts on important notifications.
At the rear, Tiago is equipped with boomerang shaped tail lights and tall mounted brake lights. Tiago looks best in the dual tone color scheme and certainly it is one of the best looking hatchback in the segment. Overall design of Tiago looks fresh and bold.
Tata Tiago Interior
The Dual tone color scheme of the exterior is carried in the inside as well. The dual tone dashboard, flat bottom tilt steering wheels with mounted controls and tri-arrow upholstery add a premium touch to this hatchback. On the features side, it comes with 17.78 cm touchscreen infotainment system which supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The fully digital instrument cluster is first in the segment, which gives all the necessary information at one glance.
In terms of comfort and convenience, Tiago comes with Automatic Climate Control, Electrically adjustable ORVMs, cooled glovebox, Powered windows and Height Adjustable Driver Seat. Tiago has plenty of storage options and comes with boot space of 242 litres. Unlike its competitors, the rear seats can’t be split into 60:40. Though Tiago is a 5 seater hatchback, but the big hump in the centre might create a problem for middle passenger in the rear seat. Given the price, Tata does provide plenty of premium features which makes it one the most desirable hatchback in the segment.
Tata Tiago Safety Features
Tata has improved its overall image in terms of safety standards. From the launch of Tata Nexon, it has established a good reputation and produces cars with more safety features. Tiago gets Dual front Airbags for Driver and Co-Driver and ABS with EBD as standard. The engine immobilizer, High Speed alert and Reverse Parking Sensors further make it more secure and safe.
The higher variants are also equipped with Reverse Parking Camera, Front Fog lamps which add more convenience and increase practicality. Tiago has scored a 4 star rating at the Global NCAP test which also makes it the safest car in the segment.
Tata Tiago Engine Specifications
Onwards BS6 norms, many manufacturers have discontinued their Diesel engines and went all Petrol. Tata is also on the same track. Tiago BS6 is now offered only in Petrol. It is powered by Revotron 1.2L, 4-stroke, 3 cylinder 1199 cc engine producing a power of 86 PS @ 6000 rpm and torque of 113 Nm @ 3300 rpm. The engine is quite punchy thanks to the torque coming in at such a lower rpm.
Tata offers Tiago in 5-speed Manual as well as Automatic transmission. The fuel capacity is 31 litres and has a mileage of 19.8 kmpl, which gives you a range of over 550+ kms on a full tank. Tiago BS6 does 0-100 kmph in 13.66 seconds and top speed is around 150 kmph.
Tata Tiago Chassis, Suspension & Brakes
Tata Tiago is derived from its base platform Tata X1 which was earlier used for Bolt and Indica. However, it has been heavily modified and strengthened which provides much needed safety to Tiago.
To keep the ride comfortable and less bouncy, Tiago comes with independent, Lower wishbone, McPherson at the front and Coil Spring mounted on Hydraulic Shock Absorbers at the rear. The suspension is on the stiffer side, however, it provides good ride handling. For the braking, it is equipped with Disc at the front and traditional Drum in the rear. Based on the variant, Tiago gets Alloy wheels with R14 or R15 inch Tubeless Tyres.

Tata offers Tiago BS6 in 7 variants. The price for the base variant starts at 4.60 lakh and goes up to 6.60 lakh ex showroom. Like other manufacturers, Tata has also discontinued Diesel option. In the hatchback segment, Tiago competes with Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Hyundai Santro, Hyundai Grandi10 and WagonR.
