Tesla Model Y Spotted Testing in India
India is one of the biggest automobile market for any manufacturer in the world. With rise in fuel prices, the demand for Electric Vehicles is expected to rise exponentially in coming years. Tesla is gearing up to catch this market share with its EV portfolio. The company has been testing Model Y and Model 3 across India. These test mules have been spotted multiple times. Recently, an automobile enthusiast Nitesh Borane clicked this Model Y picture somewhere in Pune and shared on social media.
Tesla Model Y Interior & Exterior
Tesla Model Y is based on the same platform as Model 3. At the front it gets LED headlights with body colored bumpers. The front design is sharp and is similar to other Tesla models. Since it is an EV, the Model Y also gets a front boot space of 150 litres and 744 litres at the rear. The alloy wheels with big chunky tyres gives it a commanding road presence. At the rear it gets LED taillights and black bumper. There is a small cladding which goes all over Tesla.
In the inside, Tesla cars are different than the other conventional cars. Tesla Model Y gets a 15.4 inch infotainment screen and it is all you need to control each and everything in your car. The infotainment screen controls each and everything in the Tesla.
Tesla Model Y Specifications
Globally Model Y is sold in two configurations, Performance and Long Range. Both models get 75 kWh battery however performance variant gets more powered motor producing 450 hp and 639 Nm of torque. It gets a total certified range of 488 km and has a top speed of 241 kph. The Long Range variant on the other hand is configured to give longer range. The dual motors are tuned to produce less power of 346 hp and 527 Nm of torque. The long range variant has a top speed of 217 kph and offers 505 km of range.

Both Performance and Long Range models take standard 10 hrs to charge from 0 to 100 however on the super charger it takes less time. Both of these models also get AWD as standard. There is also Long Range RWD which offers whooping 540 km of range and Standard Model Y variants which offers 390 km of range. The Standard variant gets a 50 kWh battery and is priced slightly less as compared to other variants.
When will Tesla come to India?
Until now Model 3 and Model Y has been spotted numerous times on Indian roads. The test mules are completely imported units and Tesla is in no mood to locally assembled these cars in India. Owing to which, Tesla is lobbying with Indian government to reduce taxes on these vehicles and this is kind of roadblock as there is not outcome.
Once issues between Tesla and Indian government are resolved then only it can be launched.
